Peanut’s Journal — July 23, 2016
Age: 1 year old
OH MY DOG, what a day! The sun came out just for me, I swear it. I found the perfect sunbeam and the perfect human pillow — JOEL. He let me climb right up on his chest like I owned the place (I do), and I stayed there as long as I could. I could hear his heart thumping under me, and I could feel mine racing too. That’s what love sounds like.
I smiled SO big my tongue flopped out — the kind of smile that only happens when you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
Joel is my boy. I know he thinks he picked me, but I picked him. He smells like peanut butter crackers and library books, and he always holds me just right.
Other dogs bark too much or try to chase squirrels or jump fences (CHEWY). Not me. I know the real prize in life is this: warm sunlight, a gentle hand on your back, and a heart to press your paw against.
This is what happiness feels like when you’re one year old and already know who your forever humans are.
