 Peanut’s Garden Journal

(June 29 Dispatch)

Yesterday was what Mom called a “gardening day,” which basically means she disappeared into the flower beds and came back smelling like dirt, joy, and those weird gloves she wears. I supervised from my usual post—either the porch, the shade, or directly in the middle of whatever she was trying to dig.

Apparently, she moved a bunch of flowers around. The Black-Eyed Susans have now taken over like some sort of sunny, cheerful army. She planted them along the side yard by the gate, by the neighbor’s house, and even in the yard to the south that’s now called “Stella’s.” (It used to be Jessica’s. And before that, Marlynn’s. Honestly, I can’t keep track.) She also moved daylilies to help with “drainage,” whatever that means. All I know is, digging was happening and worms were unearthed. Ten out of ten, would sniff again.

She even re-dug the flower bed by the air conditioner. That’s where Chewy used to lay on the flowers like a king on his throne. I gave it a respectful sniff. She says she’s bringing back the “Solomon Memorial Garden” because we’re not getting that sewer line after all. She’s got plans for pea gravel and some big, fancy rocks. I approve—good pee potential.

In the evening, we went for a walk with Heather and Loki. Loki’s chill. Big, blonde, polite. We even hit up the dog park for the first time! I was a little unsure—there were a lot of dogs, a fallen tree, a hill, and these giant buckets of water (no thanks). I kept my paws dry and my nose busy. A bit of growling happened, and Mom picked me up instantly like the helicopter parent she is. Can’t say I minded—airlifted to safety, snuggled, and admired? Yes, please.
