like a warm lick. So warm.

 Sunday, July 6 – Peanut’s Journal

Finally! It’s Sunday. The day my human has been talking about all week. She’s been buzzing around like a bee lately—parties, gardening, swimming, whatever humans do to stay busy. But today? Today she promised me she’s staying home. All day. Just me, her, the garden, and maybe some crumbs if I’m lucky.

Today is bliss. Emma said she’s going to read, garden, scrapbook, and make jewelry. I hope she sits still long enough for me to nap in her lap. She rarely does. That’s why Becky is my favorite. Becky sits. I can snuggle. End of story.

I deserve a break because yesterday she gave me a bath.   The surface was slippery, and I didn't feel very stable. I tried to stand up straight, but my paws kept sliding around.  I was trepidatious but it was like a warm lick. So warm.  She got in with me and washed all the good smells off my body.  Before the bath,    I smelled so good. I smelled tough. I smelled like a squirrel killer.  Now I smell like peaches and love.

Right now, she’s sitting in the garden, typing without even looking at her fingers. She’s dreaming with her hands. July is her month, she says. She calls herself July’s child. And Julie’s child. I don’t know who Julie is, but I bet she loved my human a whole lot.

As for me, I’m soaking up sun, watching the bees, and waiting for her to drop a cracker. It’s a perfect day.

Love,
Peanut 🐾
