overseeing a chaotic battle of petals and mulch.

This morning has been slow. Emma is tired because we went to bed too late.  She did at least.  I can sleep anywhere. She keeps saying it’s hard to turn off the television, which I understand. The glowing box is cozy and hums like a calm storm. Reading, she says, takes more effort. (I wouldn’t know. I prefer audio-based entertainment, like birds and delivery trucks.)

Now let’s talk garden. Obviously, I supervised. I always do. Emma moves flowers around like she’s playing a floral version of chess. She says the day lilies need to go backward (whatever that means), and some other flowers near the fir tree are being reassigned to the day lily district. It’s chaos out there, but I remain calm and observant—positioned on the door step like a wise general overseeing a chaotic battle of petals and mulch.

Yesterday was a big day for Emma: swimming, shopping, walking, writing, gardening, card-making… it was exhausting I hear. I napped through most of it, because I know how to pace myself. Today, she says more card-making supplies are arriving in the mail, and something about jewelry. She also muttered something dramatic like "Argh!" about her painting projects. I personally think she should just sit still with me more often. But alas, she is a human tornado of ideas.

Tomorrow she’s planning to go back to that dentist office to "whack plants within an inch of their lives." Honestly, she’s more violent with weeds than I am with Chewy when he breathes too loud.

Last night, Emma walked to Broad Ripple to meet her friend Amanda at Brics. I didn’t go, even though I could have. And frankly, I should have. They talked for a long time and Emma came back smelling like ice cream and friendship. Amanda’s been her friend for years and they’ve been through a lot—separately, but together. That’s how good friendships work, I guess. )

Emma's been feeling “headachey and overheated.”  Theories include: a sneaky bug, a weird sun angle, or general weather weirdness. I’ve got a simpler explanation: not enough naps, not enough water, too much rushing. They should try my approach: slow down, stay hydrated, eat a light protein snack, and curl up in a sun patch. Works every time.

Until tomorrow,
Peanut 🐾
